Never Order Room Service Again: Essentials for Cooking in Your Hotel Room

Knowing what to pack in your luggage to cook on the road is just as important as the clothes you bring. Just like a pair of pants that can work with more than one outfit, there are basic items and seasonings that travel well and can be used for a variety of dishes. I've saved a lot of money and have avoided many bad and/or expensive room service meals by planning in advance. All I have to do is find the local grocery store for actual food. To the musicians, I usually pack my items in a 30x30 road case. For general travelers it is well worth the savings to pack a separate cooking bag you can check. Feel free to post if you have any other essential items you use.

Electric Casserole Dish:
Use it to make stews and soups. It’s also good for frying, sautéing and making SOME desserts (like my Peach Pleasure recipe in the previous post).

Seasonings:
sea salt, pepper mill, paprika, garlic powder, olive oil and cayenne pepper.

Dessert:
cinnamon, raw sugar, Agave nectar and honey

Utensils:
spatula, sharp knife, pasta spoon and soup spoon
